Shawn E. Freeman and fellow artists present "Hypercolor"

Jun 17, 2009

The Hutchinson Art Center is pleased to present "Hyper color" a show of recent works that explore the expressive and often experimental use of color in artwork. Hypercolor combines the talents of 5 local / regional artists as they create a spectrum of color in the main gallery at the Hutchinson Art Center through a variety of mediums, techniques, and styles. Participating artists include Shawn E. Freeman, Lacy Mott, Dallas Stephens, Steven C. Curiel, and Dustin Curiel.

The main gallery at the Hutchinson Art Center will be enveloped in a spectrum of color as pieces will be arranged in a salon style and progressively sweep from one color to the next. This exhibition draws on the talents of the participating artists and their unique and individual approaches to using color in their artwork. The form of the show has been left open, purposely, to maximize the variety artistic visions. The one uniting factor of all the work is the artists' use of color in the pieces and the arrangement of them along the color spectrum. This results in a journey that takes the viewer across the diverse use of color by artists working in very unique artistic forms.

Mediums included in the exhibition incorporate Photography and Action painting by Shawn E. Freeman, Charcoal on Canvas by Dallas Stephens, Assemblage pieces by Lacy Mott, Prismacolor drawings by Steven C. Curiel, and Urban inspired styling's by Dustin Curiel. This unique combination of artists and mediums provide a modern approach to examining color and the communicative and often investigational role that color incorporates in the creation of art. The exhibition also seeks to provide exposure and contemplation on new works by the included local and regional artists participating.

The exhibition will run from June 4th, 2009 to July 5th, 2009 at the Hutchinson Art Center's main gallery and will available for viewing during regular business hours of the art center. The artist reception is scheduled for June 18th to coincide with the Third Thursday festivities in the Downtown District of Hutchinson and the Annual Downtown Artwalk. The Hutchinson Art Center and the Artists of Hypercolor would like to formally invite the public to attend this exhibition and explore this unique look into the world of color.
